Care Guide
1. Light: Grows best in full sun for strong, healthy growth and a full canopy. Aim for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Young palms can tolerate some part shade but will generally perform best with increasing sunlight as they mature.
2. Water: Water deeply 2β3 times per week during the first few months after planting, adjusting according to rainfall, temperature and soil moisture. Once established, water deeply around once a week during extended hot and dry periods. Consistent moisture during the warmer months will encourage faster, healthier growth, but avoid constantly waterlogged conditions.
3. Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter but can adapt to a range of soil types. Improve poor soil with compost before planting and ensure excess water can drain freely. Apply mulch around the root zone to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch away from direct contact with the trunk.
4. Fertiliser: Apply a slow-release fertiliser formulated for palms in spring and again during the warmer growing season, following the manufacturer’s recommended application rates. A palm-specific fertiliser containing essential trace elements can help maintain healthy green foliage and prevent nutrient deficiencies. Water thoroughly after fertilising.
5. Pruning: Remove only fully dead, brown or damaged fronds as needed. Avoid removing healthy green fronds, as they provide nutrients to the palm and support healthy growth. Never cut or damage the central growing point. As the palm matures, professional assistance may be required to safely remove high fronds.
