Product Details

Woolly Bush ( Adenanthos sericeus ) is a hardy, low-maintenance Australian native known for its soft, silvery foliage. It thrives in Melbourne’s climate with proper care.

1. Planting

Choose a full sun to partial shade location.

Prefers well-draining, sandy, or loamy soil .

If planting in clay soil, improve drainage by adding gypsum and organic matter .

2. Watering

Water regularly when young (1–2 times per week).

Once established, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering in dry periods.

Avoid overwatering, as it dislikes soggy soil.

3. Soil & Fertilizing

Loves low-nutrient, well-draining soil —avoid rich, heavy soils.

Use a low-phosphorus native plant fertilizer in spring and autumn.

Mulch with organic mulch (e.g., bark, wood chips) to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

4. Pruning & Maintenance

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage dense growth.

Avoid cutting into old, woody growth , as it may not regenerate.

Ideal for hedging, screening, or feature planting due to its compact form.

5. Pests & Diseases

Generally pest-resistant , but keep an eye out for scale insects or caterpillars.

If pests appear, use a gentle insecticidal soap or prune affected areas.

Good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues.

6. Additional Tips

Can be grown in pots or containers with well-draining native potting mix.

Attracts native birds (especially honeyeaters) with its nectar-rich flowers.

Wind and salt-tolerant, making it suitable for coastal gardens.
