Care Guide
1. Light: Grows best in full sun to part shade. For dense, compact growth and vibrant new foliage, choose a position receiving at least 4–6 hours of sunlight per day. It can tolerate some shade, although growth may be less dense.
2. Water: Water deeply 2–3 times per week during the first few months after planting, adjusting according to rainfall, temperature and soil moisture. Once established, water deeply around once a week during extended warm and dry periods. Newly planted advanced plants may require more frequent watering while establishing. Avoid constantly waterlogged soil.
3. Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter but adapts to a range of soil types. Improve poor soil with compost before planting. Apply mulch around the root zone to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch away from direct contact with the stems or trunk.
4. Fertiliser: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser suitable for native plants in early spring. For regularly trimmed hedges, a second light application during the growing season can support dense, healthy new growth. Use fertiliser according to the manufacturer’s recommended application rates and water thoroughly after feeding.
5. Pruning: Trim regularly during the active growing season to maintain the desired height, width and shape. Light, frequent pruning encourages branching and creates a denser hedge. For newly planted hedges, tip pruning can help promote bushier growth from an early stage. Remove dead, damaged or weak branches as needed.
